Today is National Beer Day! (It’s also National No Housework Day, but that’s another story).
My original plan was to just open a beer and call it a day, but then I started wondering if there were any good cocktails that contained beer. And there are TONS! Today I wanted to share with you the Bourbon Maple Fizz. It contains 2 of my favorite beverages – bourbon and beer!
The original recipe that I found here used a pale ale for the beer, but since I’m not into that, I replaced it with a Shandy. You can use any bourbon that is to your taste. Since it’s a mixed drink that would bury the taste of the bourbon, I just used Jim Beam.
Bourbon Maple Fizz
1 tsp. maple syrup
1 oz. bourbon
1 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. lime juice
2 oz. beer (I used a Shandy)
Orange twist for serving
Mix together everything but the beer, pour over ice, and then top with the beer.
What you end up with is a beverage that’s light, refreshing, and citrusy. I was worried that it would be overly sweet, but the lime juice mellows out the sweetness of the maple syrup to gives you a drink that’s perfect for summer – or just to brighten a quarantine day.
And if you are making drinks for several people, this is easy to make in larger quantities.
Enjoy!
