This is another one of my go-to recipes when I have cocktail parties (or, like now, when I drink alone!). Now, if you’ve ever to been a bar where they served lemon drop shots, you’ve probably had an over-sweetened beverage that tasted kind of like a lemon. This drink is more lemon-y and less like drinking a cup of syrup. It reminds me of the lemon drop candies that I ate when I was a kid – but with a kick!
Some people rim the glass with sugar, and add an optional 1/2 oz. of triple sec or limoncello, but I think that makes the drink too sweet, and I prefer the tang of this version.
Lemon Drop:
2 oz. vodka
1 1/2 oz. lemon juice (preferably fresh-squeezed)
1 to 1 1/2 oz. simple syrup
Place ingredients in a shaker with ice, and shake until cold. Pour into a martini or coupe glass, and garnish with a lemon slice.
Fun fact: I made some nectar for my hummingbird feeder this week, and it’s the same process (although different ratios) as making simple syrup!
