Minnesota police shoot, kill Black man during traffic stop Sunday
Police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, about 10 miles northwest of Minneapolis, shot and killed a Black man during a traffic stop around 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  The victim, identified as 20-year-old Daunte Wright, reportedly was stopped for an unspecified traffic violation, during which time police discovered Wright was wanted on an outstanding warrant, said Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon in a statement Sunday.  “At one point as officers were attempting to take the driver into custody, the driver re-entered the vehicle.  One officer discharged their firearm, striking the driver,” the statement continued.

The shooting prompted angry demonstrations Sunday night, during which protestors clashed with police, jumping on a police SUV and using a concrete block to smash its windows.  Later, protesters surrounded police headquarters, and officers fired flash bangs to disperse the crowd.  The National Guard, already mobilized in Minneapolis, where the Derek Chauvin trial continues, were mobilized to Brooklyn Center at the request of local authorities.

Third week of Derek Chauvin trial testimony begins today
Testimony continues this morning in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who’s accused of killing George Floyd on May 25, 2020 by kneeling on his neck for over nine minutes during an arrest.  Following presentation of expert witnesses for the past two weeks, the prosecution this week is expected to have members of George Floyd’s family take the stand.  Floyd’s brothers, Philonise and Rodney Floyd, are both listed as possible witnesses.  The defense is expected to take over later this week and will likely call on law enforcement and medical experts to support their contention that drug use and heart issues were the cause of George Floyd’s death.
