Getting out the tackle box, checking the reels and rods, checking if it’s time for new line (remember that monster that snapped it last season!) and stopping in at your favorite local bait shop to swap stories or perhaps, some knowledge about different areas to fish or the set up used. Welcome to the 2021 Wisconsin Fishing Opener! This time of year takes me back in time to when my parents set me up with my Zebco 202 fishing package and the “Monster” Perch caught on it! (My first!) My brother taking forty-five minutes to land a twenty-seven pound pike in the BWCA. Dad reelin’ in a thirty-two inch Lake Trout in Ontario, Canada. Mom sitting on the bow of the seventeen foot Lund reading a book, watching her bobber and “slaying” Walleyes. And can’t forget about Little Sister landing her first Crappie! Besides all we do to get going to our favorite fishing spot, remember the stories passed down through the generations and the new ones to be made this year! Enjoy not only the sport, but the ones you’re with to enjoy it with you! Good Luck, Be Safe, Happy Fishing!
