The late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts summed it up as only he could with that bit of humor when Ronnie Wood joined the Stones after the departure of Mick Taylor in 1974. Ronnie had a hand in helping to write the Stones classic “It’s Only Rock And Roll (But I Like It)” before he even joined the band. He would also have a hand in writing “Hey Negrita” for the Stones’ 1976 album Black And Blue (Wood would be credited for the inspiration for those two songs but not a writing credit). The former Faces and Jeff Beck Group guitarist always wanted to be a member of The Rolling Stones and finally was named an official member in 1975. With Charlie Watts’ joke and Ronnie’s determination to be a member, the gods of rock were in his favor. Forty years later we celebrate his anniversary of his welcome into the Stones family!
