In a ceremony attended by such celebrities as John Mayer and Guy Fieri, Sammy Hagar on Tuesday was awarded his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Speaking to a crowd of onlookers, the onetime Van Halen frontman said his mother was “in love” with the Walk of Fame – so receiving its 2,779th star was a dream come true for him. “She would want to come down here and see the movie stars,” Hagar recalled. “She was really in love with the movie industry and Clark Gable and those guys. I remember seeing this thing and to think, it was way beyond a dream. You have dreams and then you have the dream that you didn’t dream. This is one of those dreams that I didn’t dream and — wow.”
But it was Mayer who surprised the crowd by saying Hagar’s reputation as a partier isn’t accurate. He said the singer-guitarist doesn’t party, “he celebrates. He celebrates being alive. He celebrates his friends, their talents, and their accomplishments. He celebrates that celebration itself as a thing. Have a good time all the time.”
