Sammy Hagar’s “I Can’t Drive 55” was inspired by a real-life speeding ticket – and he’d love to track down the officer who gave it to him. He says it was a New York state trooper who pulled him over at 2 in the morning for going 62 in a 55 mph zone.
Hagar told the Times-Union he’d love to find that trooper now: “This man would be backstage with his family and he would be treated like a king… I would do a shot with him, I’ll take pictures, I’ll give him a swag bag. I might bring him out on stage and introduce him.”
The New York State Police has even tried to find the officer, but his identity remains a mystery for now.
