It begins with Joe Satriani absolutely shredding an “Eruption” sounding solo and then somehow just gets better from there.
Sammy Hagar’s new song “Encore. Thank You. Goodnight.” is a heartfelt tribute to his late band-member and friend Edward Van Halen.
Sammy says Ed came to hm in a dream and helped him write this song- leading to the poignant line “Thanks for the visit, what took so long?”
It is a rockin’ affair, with a second, blistering solo from Satriani, while bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Kenny Aronoff ably hold down the low end.
Hagar evokes the heyday of his time in Van Halen and says:
“This song is my final bow to that part of my life,” he said in a statement. “It’s not meant to be anything more than a thank you — with love, with respect, and with one hell of a guitar solo.”
