A long-lost early performance by Thin Lizzy has surfaced online. The 1971 set appeared on “Top Gear”, a BBC hosted by John Peel.
Peel was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Thin Lizzy, and the band recorded 11 sessions for John Peel’s BBC show between 1971 and 1977.
While most of those sessions have been released, the first recording, taped in late 1971 at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios, was considered lost. It’s now been discovered on an off-air reel-to-reel tape and uploaded to YouTube.
The newly discovered tracks include “Clifton Grange Hotel”, “Ray-Gun”, “Dublin”, and “The Rise And Dear Demise Of The Funky Nomadic Tribes”, showcasing the band’s early sound and material.
