Tesla bassist Brian Wheat doesn’t like being called ‘hair metal’. In an interview, Wheat said it “Annoys me personally is when people call us a ‘hair’ band in a condescending way.”
Wheat criticizes the label “hair metal” as a pejorative term used to disparage acts thought to have been all flash and no substance. He asserts that Tesla is more akin to blues-based rock bands like The Black Crowes or Guns N’ Roses than the glam bands typically associated with the “hair metal” label, like Motley Crue or Ratt.
Teslas new album, “Homage,” features covers of classic rock hits by iconic vocalists like Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury, and James Brown, reflecting the band’s influences and musical roots.
