Okay so here’s the news- what you need to know:

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2022 was revealed Wednesday morning and it’s definitely a diverse one.
  • Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon all got the call to the Hall in the Performer category along with Pat Benatar, plus the Eurythmics.
  • Judas Priest and studio duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (who produced platinum-selling hits for Janet Jackson) will also be inducted under the Musical Excellence category.
  • This is the first time ever in Rock Hall history, according to spin.com, that six female acts will be inducted together.
  • The ceremony will take place on November 5 in Los Angeles.

So Judas Priest finally get their due- ….sorta.
What exactly is the Musical Excellence category? Part of me thinks it’s a place to get artists in, that have had strong support over the years, but according to the Hall aren’t reallllly worthy. A second rate acceptance, if you will.

With that said, Randy Rhoads was inducted into that category last year so at least they’re in good company.

Finally Pat Benatar is in- and rightfully so.

Looking forward to seeing Dolly’s induction- is she Rock and Roll? Hell no, but she’s awesome and it will be cute and funny- plus now she has to deliver on making that rock record, which I can’t wait to hear.

Now the big questions rear their heads- who will be invited to accept as part of Juads Priest? Will Glenn Tipton be there? Of course. K.K. Downing? Probably not, but would be nice. Tim “Ripper” Owens? This would be shocking and a huge surprise.

Who will induct them? My money is on Gretta Van Fleet (ugh.) or some other darling band that Rolling Stone loves…

With the diverse group of inductees, this should be an entertaining ceremony and it’s the first time I’ve looked forward to one in a loooong time.
