Axl Rose got rave reviews during his brief stint as AC/DC’s lead singer – but Brian Johnson says he couldn’t bear to watch.
In 2016, Johnson had to step away from the band for health reasons – and Rose took over for the rest of the tour.
In his new memoir The Lives of Brian, Johnson admits that he hasn’t seen any of Axl’s performance: “I’m told that he did a great job, but I just couldn’t watch… It’s like finding a stranger in your house, sitting in your favourite chair.”
Johnson says he holds no grudge against Axl or his bandmates, who “did what they felt they had to do”. He would eventually rejoin the band in 2020.
