Metallica has always been more than just hearing the music. It’s the bass thumping in your chest. It’s watching Lars pound the sticks. And now, it’s catching the lyrics in sign language.
Metallica has released videos for every song on their new album, 72 Seasons, in ASL (American Sign Language).
The band worked with Amber Galloway of Amber G Productions and the Deaf Professional Arts Network for these special videos. “Metallica has shown the world what access and inclusiveness can look like,” Galloway said. “Often times, hearing individuals think that captioning a music video is sufficient. Sadly text does not show intonations. It doesn’t show the emotional connection that ASL does. These videos also capture the voices of the instruments.”
Metallica posted about it:
ICYMI – 10 days ago, we announced we’d be releasing each song off #72Seasons with American Sign Language interpretations, starting that day with the title track. Today we’re back with all 11 remaining songs, now available on our YouTube channel!
