Looking at the ingredients for the Cuba Libre, you may be asking yourself “Isn’t this just a rum and coke?”
The answer is: not really. The difference between a Cuba Libre and a rum and coke is the addition of lime. A small difference, but one that DOES make a difference to the taste and personality of the drink.
So how did this cocktail come about? There are many rumors, from Teddy Roosevelt yelling “Free Cuba” in a crowded bar, to it being named after the Rough Riders’ Camp Cuba Libre, to a bartender that had Coca Cola on hand for visiting American soldiers. No one really knows, but here’s some interesting history that I came across.

Now, for the cocktail itself. You only need 3 ingredients.
Cuba Libre
2 parts BACARDI Rum
4 parts Coca-Cola
2 lime wedges
Fill a glass with ice. Squeeze and drop a fresh lime wedge into the glass. Pour in BACARDI Rum and top with chilled Coke. Then stir and garnish with a lime wedge.

Fun Fact: This is the closest I have ever been to Cuba
Kick back and enjoy!
